What's a Smart Link and how do I set one up?

ClickMagick Smart Links are like bitly links – but smarter.

They’re perfect for places where the link itself matters, such as social media posts, email newsletters, or anywhere you want a short, branded, or “pretty” URL.

Beyond simple shortening, Smart Links come with powerful features that give you more control, like sending visitors from different countries to different destinations, limiting clicks, adding password protection, and more.

Just note that while they’re great for general use, Smart Links aren’t designed for tracking your paid ads.

Caution: Do NOT use Smart Links with paid ads. This would be a violation of your ad network’s policies and your ad account would be at risk.

Setting up your first Smart Link

To set up a very basic Smart Link, go to the Smart Links page and click on the “+ New Link” button.

Enter the “Primary URL,” which is the URL you want users to be redirected to when they click on your Smart Link.

You can leave everything else blank, and the system will automatically generate a “Link Slug” for you consisting of a random combination of letters and numbers, like this ...

https://www.clkmg.com/[USERNAME]/16sd3r

But more often than not, you’ll probably want to choose a meaningful Link Slug, like this ...

https://www.clkmg.com/[USERNAME]/page1
https://www.clkmg.com/[USERNAME]/specialoffer

etc.

The Link Slug must be between 4 and 20 characters and can only contain letters, numbers, and hyphens.

There are many additional settings and features you can explore when setting up Smart Links, but creating a basic Smart Link is as simple as entering the Primary URL you want users redirected to and optionally entering the Link Slug if you don’t want it to be randomly generated.
