It can’t hurt, as long as you make sure you don’t use any associated conversion actions for ad optimization as they will be corrupted with bad data from the Google Tag on your site.

You can still use the Google Tracking Tag for things like building retargeting audiences, but if you don’t have a specific reason to use it you can also just remove it entirely from your webpages.
