If you follow the general strategy below, you’ll unlock the highest-quality ad optimization your ad networks are capable of, far beyond what’s possible with pixel-only tracking or standard CAPI setups.

About Your Existing Conversion Actions and Datasets
Your existing Conversion Actions and Datasets are corrupted with bad conversion data. Once you begin using Audience Optimization, these old assets should no longer be used for optimization.
However, the ad network tracking code already on your webpages still plays an important role – it provides page-level behavioral data such as time on page, scroll depth, and user engagement signals.
So you should keep your ad network’s tracking code on your pages, but it should not send any conversion events.
Your existing ad network tracking code should send only PageView-type events, nothing more.
Transitioning to New Conversion Actions or Datasets
When setting up Audience Optimization, you’ll create new Conversion Actions or a new Dataset inside your ad platform. These will be free of all the noisy, inaccurate historical data that has been confusing the ad algorithms.
Then Audience Optimization will send your accurate conversion data to your new Conversion Actions or Dataset.
Just make sure any existing ad network tracking code on your site only sends PageView (or equivalent) events, and that all conversion events are sent exclusively via ClickMagick.
For Google/Microsoft, you’ll also want to disable your old Conversion Actions or set them to “Secondary (Observe Only)” so the new Conversion Actions you create to use with ClickMagick are the only ones used for optimization.
Sending Conversion Events with Audience Optimization
Most advertisers only send their final sale event back to the ad networks. That's a major optimization mistake.
Ad platforms optimize based on conversion feedback; they need signals to learn who your best users are. If you're only sending a handful of sales per day, the algorithm won't have enough data to find patterns or optimize efficiently.
