When we started building ClickMagick's current, modern UTM-based tracking system years ago, tracking was still done with what we called Smart Links.
That was before all the third-party cookie issues, when redirect-based tracking still worked great. But as the web evolved, we knew there had to be a better, more future-proof way to track ads accurately – so we built an entirely new system from the ground up.
To differentiate it from the old Smart Links system, we called it ClickMagick Campaigns.
Fast forward to today, and that “new” system has been our only ad tracking platform for years. Every ClickMagick user now uses it by default – it is ClickMagick.
Meanwhile, Smart Links have taken on a new life of their own. We recently renamed them Smart Links to better reflect what they actually are – powerful, flexible short links (think Bitly, but way smarter).
So at this point, the term “Campaigns” doesn't really add any value. It just makes things sound more complicated than they are.
So we're simplifying.
From now on, we'll simply refer to your tracking as ClickMagick, or when talking about the technology behind it, ClickMagick TrueTracking.
Nothing about how your tracking works is changing – we're just making the language cleaner and more accurate to what ClickMagick has become: a single, unified, TrueTracking platform built for modern marketers who want real accuracy and clarity in their data.
